porthmeor artists studios

whenever we go to St.Ives, we always walk along Porthmeor beach
and look at this amazing building and dream about what it's like inside.
it houses Porthmeor artists studios, the St.Ives School of painting and
the local fishermens cellars, but we had never been inside .....
until thursday.

we had just missed all the other open studios but one was still open,
so we had a really nice chat with artist Iain Robertson who
shares one of the studios with his wife Clare Wardman.

the studios are beautiful but decaying and desperately need to be saved
from falling into the sea, basically. 3.7 million pounds is needed and
the artists, fishermen and the architect are interested in
restoring the buildings rather than altering them.

Clare Wardman's studio

we didn't get to take any photo's of inside so I have included a couple
by photographer Paul Massey and check out the video link below too

there was an exhibition in one of the other studios that we visited too
in which all the resident artists had given a piece of work to raise
money for the restoration.
the buildings have been here for over 150 years, used by both
fishermen and artists such as Ben Nicholson and Francis Bacon
and it would be such a shame if they weren't saved.

for more info about the restoration, please visit: www.bsjwtrust.co.uk
there is also an article by Emma Thomas you should read - click here
and some great little videos about the studios - click here
