oops

we had a little trouble this morning with the mail form on the contact us page on our website - an application error of some kind.
it seems to have magically fixed itself now though, just a glitch I guess.
we will be keeping an eye on it but for now you can send us a message if you wish.

"making a lasting impression" exhibition

the torre abbey "making a lasting impression" exhibition is now open and runs until the 28th of june, so plenty of time for you to go and see our work as well as the beautiful abbey and its grounds.
some other work in the exhibition includes silver jewellery by Sarah Scott, basketmaking by Hilary Burns, earthenware ceramics by Arwyn Jones, textiles by Susie Gillespie and sculptural work in cob by Jackie Abey & Jill Smallcombe.

as promised, here are a couple of images of the work we made for the exhibition, with both pieces being a direct response to our visit to the abbey, its environment and its history.

the bench: inspired by the steel and timber comination used throughout the abbey on new walkways, staircases and window frames and also on our own existing designs of combining steel with oak.
the steel has been powder-coated using the same colour as the new steel work in the abbey and oak from devon has been used for the seat.

the blocks: an abstract concept based on the stone floors used within the old part of the abbey where small dents have been chipped out to form a safe walkway.
3 paint colours were chosen from rooms in the abbey to form the tops of each block.
by combining these fairly modern colours with the old markings of the stone floor we wanted to form an idea of the different periods in history present within the abbey.

torre abbey exhibition march 09

we were asked last year if we would take part in an exhibition to be held at torre abbey in march 09, along with 12 other local artists as part of the "making a lasting impression" exhibition.
we were invited to explore the abbey and its environment and produce work that was inspired by its architecture & history.
the abbey has just undergone a huge restoration project and the mix of the ancient architecture with the new is beautiful.
we will be posting images of the work we have made for the exhibition soon.
the exhibition will be open from the 6th march until the 28th june
